The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy is the nonprofit partner of the National Park Service overseeing the Golden Gate National Recreation Area — 84,000 acres of national parkland spanning the San Francisco Bay Area, including Muir Woods, Ocean Beach, Crissy Field, and Alcatraz Island. The Parks Conservancy is a membership organization created to preserve the Golden Gate National Parks, enhance the experiences of park visitors, and build a community dedicated to conserving the parks for the future.

Position Overview:
Under the direction of the HR Operations Director, the Sr. Payroll Specialist processes and facilitates the Conservancy’s payroll production, reports, filings and related documents; ensures accurate and timeliness of payroll in compliance with all applicable city, state, and federal regulations. This is a non-exempt position.
This position is located in The Conservancy’s headquarters at Fort Mason in San Francisco. Due to current restrictions relating to COVID-19, we are accommodating remote work for this and many of our other positions.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
Ensures all Conservancy staff, both non-exempt and exempt, are paid accurately and timely on a semi-monthly processing schedule. The Sr. Payroll Specialist will work autonomously, while processing employee changes related to payroll, make adjustments, review timecards, prepare payrolls, submit payrolls by deadlines, generate reports, and maintain payroll records.
  • Maintains clean, up-to-date employee information in payroll and timekeeping systems; managing the collection, calculation, and entering of payroll and processing of individual and bulk PAN forms.
  • Trouble shoots payroll system to ensure accuracy, compliance, reliability and efficiency; working with vendor (Currently, ADP), as needed.
  • Updates tax withholding changes, insurance premium deductions, direct deposit account changes, pay changes, and other payroll related system modifications.
  • Distributes paychecks, as applicable, including expediting termination checks, as needed.
  • Generates scheduled reports for finance and adhoc reports, as requested, including semi-monthly payroll register reports to Director of HR.
  • Determines payroll liabilities by approving the calculation of employee federal and state income and social security taxes, and employer's social security, unemployment, and workers compensation payments.
  • Processes variation of pay types including vacation, bonuses, severance, retro, admin, etc. Responsible for timely, and accurate final termination checks.
  • Works with supervisors to clear timecard exceptions and recurring punch discrepancies.
  • Maintains employee confidence and protects payroll operations by keeping information confidential.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Education and Experience:
  • AA degree or equivalent work experience
  • 5 years payroll experience; at least 2 years managing the payroll function

Pay rate: $33.65+/hour +, depending on qualifications and experience.
Physical Requirements and Work Environments:
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
Supervision: This position does not supervise staff
